What this website collects, how it is used, where it goes, and the choices you have.

This page covers www.cushingtrans.com, the website of Cushing Transportation, Inc. The website collects what you type into its quote form and driver application and sends it to Cushing by email. Other information goes out automatically as pages load: to Amazon, which hosts the site; to Textline, for the floating Driver Apply button; and, on every page except this one and the driver application, to Meta, through its advertising pixel, and to Google, through Google Analytics.

Information you send

The website has two forms: the quote form and the driver application. Both go to Cushing's form service, which runs on Amazon Web Services. The service checks what you entered and sends it as one email through Amazon's email service, Amazon SES. It saves no copy of the form; its log keeps only the few details named below, for 30 days.

Quote requests

The quote form asks for your company, your name, your email address and phone number, the service you need, where the container is picked up and where it goes. How often you ship and any other details are optional.

The email goes to Cushing's dispatch mailbox, workorders@cushingtrans.com, with your email address as the reply address, and dispatch uses it to answer you about the move. The form service's log keeps the company name and the email's reference number, so a request that did not arrive can be traced.

Driver applications

The driver application asks for your full name, your phone number, the city or ZIP code you are based in, the terminal you would run from, your truck, whether you hold a Class A CDL, your years of commercial driving, whether you are 24 or older, and whether your record is clean with no DUI in the last five years. Your email address, your truck's year, make and model, and anything else you add are optional. The application never asks for a Social Security number.

The application also asks for photos of the front and back of your CDL. Before they are sent, your browser shrinks each photo to no more than 1600 pixels and saves it again as a JPEG, which removes the details a phone camera stores inside a photo file, such as the location. The photos still show everything printed on the license, including your license number and date of birth.

The email, with the photos attached, goes to the people at Cushing who handle driver applications, with your email address as the reply address if you gave one. They use it to call or text you about driving with Cushing. The form service's log keeps only the number of photos and the email's reference number: not your name, and never the photos.

The floating Driver Apply button

On a phone, every page shows a floating Driver Apply button. It opens your own messaging app with a new text to Cushing's dispatch number, 708.656.5050, and nothing is sent until you send that text. Texts to the number are handled through Textline, the business texting service the dispatch desk uses. The site's other phone links work the same way: they open your phone's dialer or messaging app, and nothing goes out until you place the call or send the text. The Driver Apply link at the top of each page is a plain link: it opens the driver application on this website.

Information collected automatically

When you open a page

Your browser requests each page from Amazon Web Services, which delivers the website through Amazon CloudFront from Amazon S3 storage. Like any web request, each one carries your network address (your IP address) and basic details about your browser and device. Access logging is turned off for the website, so Cushing receives no log of individual visits from its hosting. Amazon still processes every request to deliver the page and protect its network, keeps its own records of that traffic, and shows Cushing summary reports, such as the most requested pages and the kinds of browsers that visit.

Each page also loads a small file from Textline that draws the floating Driver Apply button, so your browser sends Textline's file storage the same kind of request. When it was reviewed for this page, Textline's file only drew the button: it sent no information and stored nothing in your browser. Textline controls the file and can change it. The site's typefaces are served from the site itself.

On every page except this one and the driver application, Meta's advertising pixel and Google Analytics also report the visit, as described under Cookies and advertising tools.

When you send a form

To turn away floods of automated submissions, the form service counts the requests that come from each network address in each hour, and each count is saved with the address and the hour. Each form also sends the time its page was opened, which the service uses to refuse submissions made faster than a person could fill in the form; that time is not kept.

Cookies and advertising tools

Meta's pixel

Every page of www.cushingtrans.com except this one and the driver application loads Meta's pixel a moment after the page is ready to use, a script from Meta Platforms that Cushing uses to see whether its advertising on Facebook and Instagram brings people to the site. When it loads, the script tells Meta which page you opened and which page you came from, along with your network address, your browser's details and an identifier kept in a cookie. Meta says that, by default, the script also sends button clicks and information that describes the page, such as its title; the website leaves that default in place. If your browser runs no scripts, the page reports the visit with a small image from Meta instead.

When the form service has accepted a quote request, the page that confirms it tells Meta that a lead was made, and the page that confirms a driver application tells Meta that an application was made; each carries a random reference number and nothing you typed. The pixel also counts clicks on the site's phone links, email links and Driver Apply links, and the first time the quote form is started, each as an event named for the action. The driver application page itself loads neither Meta's pixel nor Google Analytics.

Meta also offers pixel owners a setting it calls automatic advanced matching. Under that setting, Meta's script looks for contact details typed into a page, such as an email address or phone number, and sends them to Meta as hashed codes that Meta can match to its accounts. Hashing hides the details but does not make them anonymous to Meta. The setting is controlled in Meta's tools, not in the website's code.

Meta may connect what the pixel reports to a Facebook or Instagram account, and it uses that information under Meta's privacy policy.

Google Analytics

Every page except this one and the driver application also loads Google Analytics, a measurement service from Google that tells Cushing how many people visit, which pages they read, how they arrived and roughly where they are, from the network address. It receives the same clicks and form events as the pixel, under their own names. Google sets a cookie named _ga, and one named _ga_ followed by the property's code, to recognize your browser on later visits; both last two years unless you clear them. The site passes Google no name, email address or phone number. Google uses what it receives under Google's privacy policy.

Cookies

The website's own code sets no cookies and stores nothing in your browser. On the website's address, the cookies come from Meta's pixel, an identifier Meta names _fbp, which lets it recognize your browser on later visits, and, if you arrive from a Meta ad, a cookie named _fbc that holds the ad's click identifier, and from Google Analytics, _ga and _ga_ followed by the property's code. Depending on your browser's settings, the pixel's reports can also carry cookies Meta set on its own sites. Meta describes its cookies in its cookies policy.

How information is used

  • To answer you. Dispatch answers quote requests by email or phone, and the people who handle driver applications call or text applicants.
  • To show the pages. Your browser's requests to Amazon and Textline deliver the pages and the floating Driver Apply button.
  • To keep the forms working. The request counts turn away floods of automated submissions, and the form service's log lets Cushing trace a request that did not arrive.
  • To measure advertising and visits. Meta's pixel shows Cushing whether its Facebook and Instagram advertising brings people to the site, and Google Analytics shows how the site is used. Meta and Google use what they receive under their own policies.

Services that receive information

The website relies on these companies, each under its own privacy policy.

Amazon Web Services
Hosts the website and runs the form service. It receives every page request and everything sent through the forms, keeps the request counts and the form service's log, and sends the form emails through Amazon SES. Amazon's privacy notice
Microsoft
Hosts Cushing's company email, where quote requests and driver applications arrive. Microsoft's privacy statement
Meta Platforms
Receives the pixel's reports from every page except this one. Meta's privacy policy
Google
Runs Google Analytics, which receives a report of each page you open, on every page except this one and the driver application. Google's privacy policy
Textline
Serves the file that draws the floating Driver Apply button and handles texts to the dispatch number. Textline's privacy policy

These are the only outside services the website itself uses. Links to Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Google Maps, the Intermodal Association of Chicago and the UIIA take you to those sites, under their own policies.

How long information is kept

Quote requests, and driver applications with their CDL photos
As emails in Cushing's company mailboxes. The website does not delete them and sets no time limit.
The form service's log
30 days, then deleted automatically.
Request counts
Marked to expire two hours after the start of the hour they count; the database then deletes them automatically, usually within a few days.
Texts to dispatch
In Textline, for Cushing's dispatch desk. The website does not set how long.
Page requests
Cushing keeps no access log. Amazon keeps its own records of the traffic under its policies; what Textline keeps from the requests for its file is set by its own policy.
Google Analytics
Google keeps what Analytics sends under its own policies. The _ga cookies stay in your browser for two years unless you clear them.
Meta's pixel
Meta keeps what the pixel sends under its own policies. The _fbp cookie stays in your browser until it expires or you clear it.

Your choices

  • Use the phone or email instead. You never have to use a form: call or text dispatch at 708.656.5050, or email workorders@cushingtrans.com.
  • Leave out what is optional. On the quote form, how often you ship and other details are optional. On the driver application, your email, your truck's details and anything else you add are optional.
  • Block the scripts. Browser settings and extensions that block trackers or third party scripts can stop Meta's script and Google's from loading on this site. A setting that only blocks third party cookies may not stop them. Clearing this site's cookies removes the _fbp and _ga cookies, and Google offers a browser add on that turns Analytics off. The website has no setting of its own that turns the pixel or Analytics off.
  • Use Meta's settings. If you have a Facebook or Instagram account, Meta's ad preferences let you limit how activity on other websites shapes the ads you see, and Your activity off Meta technologies lets you see and disconnect activity that businesses send to Meta. Neither setting stops the pixel from loading on this site.
  • Browser privacy signals. The website does not change what it does when your browser sends a Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control signal.
